Brave New Child: The Story of 20 Children of War and Their Journey to Peace
What happens when young people raised in war learn to break free from conditioned, prejudicial thinking? This inspiring true story follows 20 children from Liberiaโa country torn apart by one of the most violent civil wars in recent historyโas they embark on a life-changing journey toward peace.
A Teacherโs Mission for Change
Marvin Davis, a teacher who had to flee Liberia for his safety, returned to help the next generation understand the root causes of the war they had just survived. Searching for the right tools, he connected with child peace educators Terrence and Jean Webster-Doyle and, together, they founded the Common Ground Society Peace School. Marvin introduced the Why Is Everybody Always Picking On Us? curriculum, designed to help young people recognize and overcome prejudicial thinking.
A Powerful Transformation
Through 20 powerful lessons, shared in letters from Marvin to the Webster-Doyles, youโll witness the remarkable changes in these children as they break free from the cycle of violence. Their journey proves that even those raised in war can unlearn prejudice and embrace peace. If they can do it, so can kids everywhereโfrom playgrounds to communities struggling with conflict.
One teacher. Twenty children of war. A lesson for the world.
