Know Your Non-Violent Options for Handling Bullying
Bullying can be tough, but you have choices. Youโre not powerlessโthere are ways to respond that let you stay in control, feel confident, and handle the situation without violence.
Use these strategies to walk away from conflict, stand your ground, and take action when needed.
- Make Friends โ A simple act of kindness might change the situation.
- Use Humor โ A joke or lighthearted response can take the power out of mean words.
- Be Clever โ Quick thinking can turn the tables and keep you in control.
- Walk Away โ Some battles arenโt worth fighting. Leaving shows youโre in charge.
- Use Reason โ Stay calm and ask questions to make the bully think twice.
- Agree with the Bully โ An unexpected response can confuse them and take away their power.
- Ignore the Threats โ If they donโt get a reaction, they might stop.
- Refuse to Fight โ Staying cool and not engaging is a sign of real strength.
- Stand Up for Yourself โ Use confident body language and a strong voice.
- Call an Authority โ If things donโt stop, tell a teacher, counselor, or trusted adult.
- Kiai/Yell โ A loud, assertive response can grab attention and stop intimidation.
- Take a Stance โ Set clear boundaries and refuse to be pushed around.
Remember, bullying is never okay. If you or someone you know is being bullied, speak up, take action, and know that you are not alone.
