about the atrium society/youth peace literacy

Atrium Society, a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit organization, concerns itself with fundamental issues, which prevent understanding and cooperation in human affairs. Starting with the fact that our minds are conditioned by our origin of birth, education, and experiences, Atrium Society’s intent is to bring this issue of conditioning to the forefront of our awareness. Observation of the fact of conditioning, becoming directly aware of the movement of thought and action, brings us face-to-face with the actuality of ourselves. Seeing who we actually are, not merely what we think we are, reveals the potential for a transformation of our ways of being and relating.

The Atrium's fundamental intent is in creating a new field of study called Education for Understanding the Conditioned Mind.

The Education for Understanding the Conditioned Mind Program is a proactive, preventative approach of educating people about the basic factors that create conflict in conditioned thinking before it becomes a serious problem. From the individual to the group, bullying on the playground to bullying on the battlefield, conflict begins with unquestioned conditioned thinking. It is those initial thoughts that set off a chain reaction instantly triggering fearful emotions and the biological fight-or-flight system. This produces a powerful psychosomatic reaction of conflict inwardly in the brain and outwardly in relationship with others. When people are conscious of this process they can begin to become aware of the structure and nature of human conflict at the primary prevention level. It is at this fundamental level that one can prevent conflict from happening by being cognizant of its underlying structure as it occurs. Once aware, one can develop naturally as an authentic human free of the conditioning that creates the unnecessary conflict we experience in relationship.

The Youth Peace Literacy resources were created by generous donations from people like Laurance S. Rockefeller and his Fund for the Enhancement of the Human Spirit, thus we felt that donating them free was in line with the spirit of giving established by this fund.
